Growth in Calgary

Growth set to continue as Finger Food enters Calgary Tech scene

Welcome to the first part of our new series where we profile our newest staff members. We want to introduce them, but also give everyone a unique snapshot of life at Finger Food.

We’re delighted to welcome two new staff to our Calgary team. Sergio Pichardo and Tanveer Virani. Both have joined Finger Food as Software Developers. Tanveer grew up in Uganda, before moving to Winnipeg in the 70s, and onto Calgary in 1998.” Sergio also came from overseas, moving to sunny Calgary in 2002, from New Zealand. It’s true – we really do have people from all over the planet working here!

We put the guys on the spot when they first joined us, with a few testing questions about why they joined us, and what they love about Calgary.

Finger Food has made a name for itself across Canada and the US, so we were intrigued why they both wanted to join us. They shared the same view.

Sergio’s passions include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Sergio: “What first attracted me to Finger Food was the sheer variety of projects they’ve, (well, “we” ) have worked on, as well as hearing about all the cutting edge technology used.”

Tanveer was equally bullish: “I was most excited about working in an invigorating, fast paced environment; but being able to work on different projects and different technology stacks was really appealing.”

Both guys have superb experience in their field, with Tanveer edging the ‘years served’ stakes by quite a margin!:

“I have over 30 years experience in my field, in companies from start-ups to the federal government to large multinational corporations. In the last five years, I had the pleasure of working in a start-up and designing the development and application platform. I had my hand in various pots, ensuring that all aspects of the platform (hardware, software, web) all worked together. Now it’s on the next exciting phase”

For Sergio, he loved his last job so much, he’d been there since university, “I have over 12 years experience in my field. I have been working at the same place since I graduated, but I felt like it was time for a change. For me, it’s the constant challenge. It’s all about problem solving and finishing the puzzle!”

As we’d all agree, life is more than just having an awesome job…We all have our passions outside of work. In the case of Sergio and Tanveer, the outdoor life in Calgary is where they spend the warmer months!

That said, Tanveer is happy outside, all year round… “We enjoy going to Prince’s Island Park during the summer to picnic and sometimes catch a Shakespeare show, and also getting out of town to the mountains or trails to let some steam off. During the winter months, my time is mostly spent at the Olympic Oval, where my son is an avid speedskater”. He also hinted that you might see him at a Flames or Stamps game or two, which our team in Vancouver takes great issue with!

We’re so happy to have these guys on board. Look out for more profiles of our crew in the coming weeks. If you like what you see, why not apply for one of our open positions
